Finally a Reason to Start a Blog!

For the past few years I have contemplated starting a blog but haven’t really had anything to consistently write about. Sure, I graduated college, moved out on my own, fell in love, got married and bought a dog and a house or two but other than those few things what else did I have to fill in the spaces between those life events? My glamorous life as a CPA? Yeah right – accounting isn’t even interesting or glamorous to those in the field. Plus, http://howshouldweaccountforme.tumblr.com/ pretty much kills it when it comes to describing life in public accounting.  Maybe write about my mis-adventures as a single girl in Scottsdale? Although hilarious and a major blur, that time of my life does not need to be put on the interwebs only to come back and haunt me in 20 years. Document on a minute by minute basis the world’s cutest dog known as Zeus? This is probably the best option of the three but imagine my disappointment when I found http://dailyfrenchie.tumblr.com/ and realized that there are a lot of the cutest dogs in the world. Zeusy would definitely be an integral part of any blog I create but I don’t think he could carry (or care to carry) a blog of his own.

So what does one do when they desperately want to start a blog but have realized that their life is interesting to no one but their mom? Get knocked up with twins of course. Yeah, re-read that sentence. My handsome and potent sperm packing hunk of husband, Luke, put not one but TWO freaking babies in me. I was almost as excited to become a mom as I was knowing that I could now have a blog with substance and staying power (more than 6 posts)! I can’t believe that I am going to go from a career focused number crunching nerd to a domestic goddess in T-Minus 6 months. Even better is that I have no idea how I am going to accomplish any of it. I mean the preganancy and baby cooking is out of my control at this point but  I don’t have a plan or a vision and have definitely never changed a diaper in my life. What I do have is a wonderful husband, two of the cutest dogs in the land, a beautiful house in the arcadia neighborhood of Phoenix, AZ to contain the chaos that is sure to ensue and an “eh we’ll figure it out attitude.”

Even if my mom and dad are the only two people to read this blog I am happy that they can follow along on this adventure since they won’t be here to share it with us every step of the way. Sadly, a few months after my brother had his first son and a few weeks after we announced our pregnancy, my parents are shipping out to the Marshall Islands for my dad’s job with the Corp of Engineers. As bad as I want my mom to be a short drive away (Tucson to Phoenix), I am even more happy that my mom and dad will get to finally be deployed together somewhere that isn’t in a war zone. My dad gets to take helicopters and catamarans to work every day while the toughest decision my mom is going to have to make is which beach to go to do yoga and swim. But she better rest up because when she comes back in July to help with the babies it’s going to be a pooping-peeing-crying-sleeping-eating-tsunami-times-two!

Ok so back to the twins! I am currently  at 13 weeks  which puts our due date at July 12, 2015. However, our doctor said to expect the twins to come earlier than that,  probably at the end of June. Here is the ultrasound we received at our first appointment:

Our First Ultrasound!
Our First Ultrasound!

We were so focused on seeing a fetus and hearing a heartbeat that when the doctor said there were two the only words I could utter were “holy shit.” The doctor reassured me that my response was natural. Luke and I went into shock and just sat there with ear to ear grins on our faces as the doctor measured the heart beats and took their measurements. Their as in two not just one. I guess I’m still in shock! I don’t know how either of us went back to work but we both had to. I just sat at my desk the rest of the day staring at the ultrasound and going in to further shock as I researched double strollers and cribs online. I’m pretty sure Luke went to work and bragged about his super sperm. Our entire world changed ( and doubled) that morning and we are so so happy and still trying to comprehend.

Here’s some stats on the babies’ developments at 10 weeks (click on the image to enlarge):

10 week stats

I feel great and am really fortunate that I haven’t had any morning sickness -just extreme exhaustion. I am really looking forward to get some energy back so I can start working out.

Luke is the most excited man in the world and I constantly find him researching information about twins online. He’s also busy picking out a SUV big enough for all of us and trying to compile a budget to figure out how we are going to make this all happen without going on welfare.

I’m already a few weeks (posts) behind but I am going to do my best to get back on track. Please bare with me while I learn to blog.
